Kongsberg to Arm Poland’s K2 Tanks With Remote Weapon Stations

Kongsberg will supply remote weapon stations for Poland’s K2 tanks and two types of support vehicles under a new contract with the Polish Armed Forces.

The Norwegian defense company will deliver its PROTECTOR RS4 Remote Weapon Stations for three variants of the K2 platform: the main battle tank, armored recovery vehicle, and combat engineering vehicle.

The contract also includes an integrated product support package covering initial spare parts, training, and other services.

Remote weapon stations allow crews to operate mounted weapons from protected positions inside their vehicles, reducing their exposure when engaging targets.

Deliveries of the first systems for vehicle integration are scheduled to begin in spring 2027. Kongsberg did not disclose the contract value or the number of weapon stations ordered.

Poland Expands Its K2 Tank Program

The contract comes as Poland continues a major expansion and upgrade of its K2 fleet.

In September, state-owned Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne signed an agreement with Hyundai Rotem to establish maintenance and overhaul capabilities in Poland for the K2’s DV27K engines. The deal includes technology transfer to support domestic servicing and potential future tank production.

Earlier, in August, Poland received 28 additional K2 Black Panther tanks from South Korea, bringing its inventory to 208.

Warsaw also aims to build a fleet of 1,600 tanks by 2032, combining US-made M1 Abrams, South Korean K2s, and German Leopard tanks. The buildup supports Warsaw’s efforts to deter potential Russian aggression, with the country planning to allocate 4.8 percent of its economic output to defense in 2027.
