US Cyber Command Selects Leidos for Military Cyber Operations Support

Leidos has received a five-year, $160-million award to support US Cyber Command in planning and coordinating offensive and defensive military cyber operations.

The work includes helping operate and protect the Department of Defense Information Network, the military’s network infrastructure, as well as cyber defense, operational planning, and analysis of emerging threats.

Leidos will also help develop tactics, techniques, and procedures and coordinate cyber operations across the command’s partner organizations.

The company said its team will include Kudu Dynamics, a recently acquired business, as part of the effort to bring together its cyber capabilities.

Strengthening Military Cyber Defenses

The Leidos award comes as the US military adapts its network defenses to increasingly automated cyber threats.

Last month, the US Air Force outlined efforts to counter advanced AI models capable of identifying vulnerabilities and developing exploits at speeds that outpace traditional methods.

Lieutenant General Thomas Hensley, commander of the 16th Air Force, said tasks that previously required months or years of specialist work could now take minutes or seconds.

AI systems can also combine multiple vulnerabilities into an attack, potentially putting sophisticated hacking techniques within reach of more non-state actors.

The command is strengthening continuous network monitoring and access controls, including multifactor authentication and network segmentation, to limit intrusion spread.

The Marine Corps is also upgrading its digital infrastructure through contracts worth $93.3 million awarded to Agile Defense earlier this year.

An $88-million award, carried out with CommIT Enterprises, supports unclassified and classified networks used for command and deployment.

A separate $5.3-million contract covers IT services for Marine Corps Installations West, including geospatial systems and planning tools.
