Kongsberg Plans $50M Counter-Drone Factory in Poland

Kongsberg will build a 45-million-euro ($50.3-million) counter-drone factory in Poland to support the country’s air defense program.

The plant will manufacture and maintain counter-unmanned aircraft systems, create more than 100 jobs, and begin serial production in the first half of 2028.

The facility will be located in the Pomeranian region near the Trójmiasto area, although Kongsberg has not disclosed the exact site. Construction is expected to begin after the company signs a contract by the end of 2026.

Kongsberg says the plant could also serve future European customers, making it part of the company’s wider manufacturing network.

“The new facility will support Polish industry and defense capabilities and strengthen Kongsberg’s presence in Poland,” CEO Eirik Lie said.

Poland Steps Up Air Defense

Poland is investing in systems to counter threats ranging from small unmanned aircraft to missiles.

Alongside the counter-drone program, Poland is expanding its ground-based air defense capabilities through the Wisła and Narew programs. Wisła uses the Patriot system to counter aircraft and missiles at longer ranges, while Narew is designed to provide shorter-range protection.

Together, these programs are intended to create a layered air defense network.

Poland is also strengthening its coastal defenses through Kongsberg’s Naval Strike Missile system. The new counter-drone factory would add local production and sustainment capacity as Warsaw continues to modernize its defenses against increasingly varied aerial threats.
