Denmark Orders More Naval Strike Missiles From Kongsberg

Denmark has ordered another batch of Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) from Kongsberg in a 400-million Norwegian krone ($42.4-million) deal to strengthen its coastal defenses.

The contract covers an undisclosed number of missiles and is structured as a government-to-government sale between Norway’s Defence Materiel Agency and Denmark’s Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation.

Copenhagen acquired Kongsberg’s land-based NSM Coastal Defence System in 2025, becoming the fifth NATO country to select the system.

The coastal defense system combines the NSM missile with a fire control system and launch pads. Kongsberg has not disclosed how many additional missiles Denmark will receive or when deliveries will take place.

Naval Strike Missile

The NSM is a precision-guided weapon designed to attack ships. It can be launched from naval vessels or mobile land-based systems, giving armed forces options for targeting maritime threats from both sea and shore.

Several NATO members have ordered the missile for naval or coastal defense use.

Poland was the first country to acquire the land-based NSM Coastal Defence System and signed a deal worth about 16 billion Norwegian krone ($1.6 billion) in 2023 for four additional coastal defense squadrons.

Latvia signed an agreement with the US in 2024 to acquire systems, with Washington covering 70 percent of the estimated $105-million procurement cost.
