Kopin Wins Contract to Provide Microdisplays for Military Aviation Helmets
Kopin Corporation has been awarded a $7.5-million contract to supply microdisplays, a critical component of helmet-mounted display systems used by military aircraft pilots.
The Massachusetts-based electronics firm said the deal was awarded by a major Pentagon contractor, recognized as a leading supplier in the aerospace and defense sector.
According to Kopin, its advanced microdisplays are designed to enhance situational awareness for military pilots operating under high-stress, high-speed conditions.
The displays allow warfighters to access mission-critical information in real time, enabling quick and accurate decision-making in rapidly evolving environments.
“Kopin has a strong track record of delivering custom-designed and rigorously tested microdisplays to the DoD and its primes, showing continued trust in the displays and systems we design and manufacture here in the USA,” said Bill Maffucci, senior vice president of Kopin’s Business Development and Strategy.
‘Solution of Choice’
Microdisplays play a vital role in projecting flight data, targeting details, and navigation cues directly into a pilot’s line of sight — all in real time.
With high-resolution augmented reality overlays, these displays help pilots stay focused during high-speed combat missions, where every second counts.
Their compact size makes them ideal for use in helmet-mounted systems, where space and weight constraints are critical.
“Our microdisplays continue to be the solution of choice for pilot helmet programs across multiple aircraft platforms because they provide our warfighters with the reliability and performance needed to achieve over-match against our adversaries,” Maffucci stated.
The microdisplays will be produced at Kopin’s Westborough facility and put through extensive testing before delivery.
