AeroVironment (AV) is executing a long-term agreement with Attalon to obtain laser subsystems that will support the production and fielding of its high-energy laser systems at scale.
The agreement centers on Attalon delivering its Valaris S laser subsystems for use across AV’s expanding portfolio of high-energy laser programs, including its LOCUST weapon, which was cleared for US Army production and subsequently landed its first international customer this month.
Alongside supplying its Valaris solution, Attalon is also expanding its production capacity, growing its skilled workforce, and adding capital equipment under a $15-million investment.
“AV is proactively scaling our LOCUST production capabilities ahead of immediate demand, ensuring our defensive technologies are ready before the need arises,” said Mary Clum, AV President of Space, Cyber, and Directed Energy.
Valaris Laser
Attalon unveiled its Valaris directed-energy solutions in August 2026, creating three variants to match different mission requirements.
Valaris X is a coherently beam-combined system delivering 70-kilowatt (kW)-class power, scalable beyond 400 kW.
Meanwhile, the Valaris S is a spectrally beam-combined mid-power system that can supply power within the 25- to 60-kW range.
For missions requiring less power, the US company also developed the Valaris D dichroically beam-combined solution that can deliver 5- to 15-kW-class performance.
The Valaris also incorporates the company’s Kilowatt Interconnect (kWIC) Disconnect, a plug-and-play repair system that lets troops replace damaged laser components in the field.
