UAE’s state-owned company EDGE Group has signed an agreement with France’s Safran Electronics & Defense to establish solid rocket motor development and production capabilities in Brazil.
The initiative focuses on building local propulsion and guidance technology at EDGE’s Brazilian offshoot SIATT, which operates in the southeast city of São José dos Campos.
The cooperation will encompass other products such as guided weapons, loitering munitions, coastal defense, and core subsystems, including inertial navigation, GNSS receivers, actuators, optronic sights, and seekers.
According to the businesses, the move is expected to reduce external supply chain reliance for Brasília’s broader defense programs, including its armed forces’ Blue Amazon Management System or SisGAAz maritime surveillance network initiative.
It will also strengthen Safran’s long-standing position as an industrial partner for Brazil in almost five decades.
“This agreement extends our global partnership network to Brazil, bringing Safran Electronics & Defense together with SIATT to build solid rocket motor capabilities on Brazilian soil,” said Hamad Al Marar, CEO and managing director at EDGE Group.
He added that the deal reflects EDGE’s commitment to “strengthening sovereign defence capability for our partners.”
Alexandre Ziegler, head of the Defense Business Unit at Safran Electronics & Defense, echoed that sentiment, saying that the arrangement pushes forward the consortium’s “complementary expertise” to advance defense solutions across the region.
Other Projects
The deal follows a series of milestones for EDGE in Brazil as it grows its footprint in South America.
The Emirati group recently integrated an engineering segment through the acquisition of local firm AKAER and inaugurated a new SIATT production headquarters in the country.
The enterprise also established a cyber defense center with the Brazilian Army and expanded maritime project agreements with the Brazilian Navy.
