UK Pledges Patriot Missiles, Drones, and Artillery for Ukraine
The UK has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine that includes Patriot missiles, other air defense interceptors, artillery ammunition, and drones.
At its center is a 100-million-pound ($135-million) contribution to NATO’s Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), which will finance air defense equipment scheduled for delivery before winter.
PURL allows NATO members and partners to fund priority US-made weapons and equipment requested by Ukraine.
Drones and Artillery Ammunition
London has separately committed to supplying Ukraine with more than 120,000 drones this year.
About 25,000 have been delivered so far, with the pace of shipments expected to increase before winter.
The planned deliveries include interceptor drones intended to destroy incoming Russian unmanned aircraft, reconnaissance models for battlefield surveillance, and attack drones.
The UK also recently delivered its one-millionth large-caliber artillery round to Ukraine.
Tens of thousands of additional long-range rounds are due to follow in the coming months.
Besides the UK, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden are financing the artillery deliveries.
Missile and AI Cooperation
The announcement follows a UK decision allowing defense manufacturer MBDA to share classified information on British components used in the SCALP cruise missile, known in the UK as Storm Shadow, to support its local assembly in Ukraine.
London and Kyiv have also signed an agreement to jointly develop AI-based military capabilities.
The latest commitments were unveiled during the 36th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
Co-chaired by the UK and Germany, the nearly 50-nation group coordinates military assistance based on Ukraine’s immediate battlefield requirements.
