L3Harris Lands $4.7B Landmark Deal for PAC-3 MSE Propulsion Systems

Lockheed Martin, the prime contractor for the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor, has awarded L3Harris a landmark deal for the interceptor’s propulsion systems.

The undefinitized contract, valued at $4.7 billion, tasks L3Harris with the large-scale production of the interceptor’s advanced two-pulse solid rocket motor, Lethality Enhancer, and Attitude Control Motors for more than seven years.

It follows Lockheed securing a contract worth up to $53.9 billion in July to ramp up PAC-3 MSE production through 2033, aligning with the Pentagon’s “Arsenal of Freedom” efforts to revitalize American manufacturing, accelerate weapons procurement, and pivot the defense sector to a wartime footing.

“Receiving this contract at unparalleled speed allows us to continue expanding PAC-3 propulsion production capacity to enable a wartime footing,” said Ken Bedingfield, L3Harris President of Missile Solutions.

“Supporting America’s Arsenal of Freedom and ensuring warfighters have the munitions needed to deter and defeat evolving threats will continue to be our priority.”

Production Capacity

In June, L3Harris began the construction of two additional facilities at its Camden site in Arkansas to support increasing PAC-3 propulsion system production.

Both facilities are expected to be operational in 2027.

The company has also added more than 1 million square feet (92,903 square meters) of manufacturing space across its US sites, including in Alabama and Virginia.
