Ukraine and Moldova have signed a five-year agreement to exchange military expertise and technology and jointly develop defense projects.
According to Ukraine’s Defence Ministry, the agreement will renew automatically and will not affect Moldova’s constitutionally enshrined neutrality.
Cooperation will cover maintaining, repairing, and modernizing military equipment, specialist training, and joint research.
Other areas include logistics, military engineering, protecting personnel and critical infrastructure, cyber defense, and airspace surveillance and protection.
Kyiv plans to share knowledge acquired during the war, including practical experience in operating weapons systems and responding to military threats.
The Ukrainian ministry said it is already advising Moldova on developing its air defense capabilities.
The agreement also covers testing and evaluating military products, exchanging expertise on equipment development and procurement, and transferring technical knowledge and technology.
Joint research and development linked to military production is another area envisaged under the framework.
Implementation will primarily involve consultations, exchanges of technical and scientific information, and work on projects agreed by the two countries.
Airspace Security Concerns
Airspace protection has become a recurring concern for Moldova, which has reported drone incursions and falling debris during Russian attacks on neighboring Ukraine.
In one incident last year, Moldovan authorities detected six drones entering the country’s airspace without authorization amid Russian air strikes on neighboring Ukraine.
Police evacuated residents and cordoned off an area after drone fragments fell onto a house, following an incursion that authorities in Chișinău described as a serious violation of Moldova’s airspace.
