Ukraine Gets Five Ai-Petri EW Systems to Strengthen Kyiv Air Defenses

Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has handed over five Ai-Petri electronic warfare systems to military units to help defend Kyiv against Russian air attacks, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

The systems were produced with funding from the Kyiv city government and transferred to the ground forces and other units.

Ai-Petri combines electronic warfare and data transmission equipment. Each system includes a pickup truck, a generator, a charging station, and associated electronics.

The equipment is intended to help detect and disrupt electronic signals used by attacking systems.

Poroshenko said Russia’s increased use of jet-powered Shahed drones and Kometa multi-channel antennas has made it harder for Ukrainian forces to counter aerial attacks.

He added that the equipment is being upgraded with direction-finding devices, high-frequency amplifiers, and transmitters.

Production has also moved to three shifts, with some work relocated to underground facilities, he said.

Deadly Attacks on Kyiv

The handover comes amid continued Russian strikes on Kyiv with ballistic missiles and drones.

Last week, Russia launched 210 drones across Ukraine, with the capital as the main target.

Ukrainian forces said they shot down or suppressed 181 of them.

The strikes are part of a wider escalation that has taken a growing toll on civilians across Ukraine.

Earlier this month, UN human rights chief Volker Türk said his office verified 15,280 civilians killed or injured during the first eight months of 2026, up 55 percent from the same period in 2025.

Nearly 2,500 of those casualties resulted from Russian glide bombs.
