BAE Systems to Equip F-35 Lots 20 to 22 With EW Suites
BAE Systems has secured a contract from Lockheed Martin to provide electronic warfare (EW) suites for F-35 Lightning II aircraft from Lots 20 to 22.
The deal, with an undisclosed amount, tasks BAE with manufacturing and delivering the AN/ASQ-239 EW system for the stealth combat aircraft.
It also covers providing systems for retrofitting and modernizing older aircraft, enhancing situational awareness and self-protection capabilities.
The AN/ASQ-239 EW system features passive, long-range sensing and software that allows for quick updates. It provides F-35s with advanced algorithms, instantaneous bandwidth, and high-speed signal processing to quickly detect and respond to threats.
“We’ve been a trusted contributor since the origin of the Joint Strike Fighter program,” said Amber Dolan, VP of F-35 Solutions at BAE Systems.
The company has delivered more than 1,500 EW systems for the F-35.
BAE is also “laser-focused on scaling production and delivering software-based capabilities to meet the rapid pace of conflict,” said Dolan, as the company uses automation, the latest system designs, a robust supply chain, and investments in its facilities to accelerate production.
Design and manufacturing are carried out at BAE Systems’ facilities in Austin, Texas, as well as the cities of Manchester, Merrimack, and Nashua in New Hampshire.
