Polish Military University to Host Apache Helicopter Training Center

Poland’s Military University of Technology (WAT) has finalized agreements with Boeing and GE Aerospace to establish domestic training and research capabilities for Polish Land Forces’ AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters.

The deals build on the NATO country’s $12-billion procurement of 96 Apache helicopters in 2024, which will make it the second-largest Apache operator globally after the US through 2030.

Sustainment, Virtual Lessons, Engine Support

Under the cooperation, WAT will house a specialized training hub and an Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory to support both intermediate and advanced sustainment services for the incoming fleet.

Part of Boeing’s deal is the launch of classroom virtual maintenance simulators, specialized tooling, and instructor instruction, along with a dedicated training helicopter.

Meanwhile, GE Aerospace will supply a training engine next year to support instruction on the T700/CT7 turboshaft engines powering the Apache fleet.

The university-led instruction will prepare personnel from the Polish Armed Forces and state contractor WZL-1, which was recently named a licensed maintenance, repair, and overhaul provider for the engines at its facilities.

“The signed agreements expand our capabilities to include training closely tied to the deployment of modern helicopters,” said Brig. Gen. Przemysław Wachulak, rector-commandant of WAT.

“In the future, our task will also include certifying and maintaining the flight training process in accordance with European military airworthiness requirements.”
