French defense contractor Thales has launched a military laboratory in Ballerup, Hovedstaden, to conceptualize, trial, and field modern communication solutions for the Danish Armed Forces.
Developed with Copenhagen’s Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO), the “Connectivity Lab” will accelerate the transition of communication tools from prototype testing to frontline deployment.
The site will enable engineers to evaluate technologies under realistic conditions alongside Danish personnel while integrating modern networks with existing legacy military equipment.
“Operational communication systems and digital networks are highly advanced and complex by nature, and this places equally high demands on access to advanced test facilities,” said Col. Thomas Øgendahl Knudsen, director of DALO’s Land Systems Division.
“The Connectivity Lab gives the Danish Armed Forces access to such a facility locally.”
‘Significant Milestone’
The center compounds broader strategic cooperation between Denmark and Thales’ segment in the country focused on digital network systems.
Beyond serving the Danish military, the laboratory will support potential technology exports to NATO partner nations and strengthen the domestic defense industrial base.
Thales has operated in Denmark since the 1970s and currently employs 100 experts at its Ballerup and Lyngby locations.
