Patria MUSCL Passive Radar to Boost NATO Country’s Drone, Aircraft Detection

Patria has signed an agreement to supply its MUSCL passive radar system to an undisclosed European NATO member to detect and track drones and aircraft.

The delivery includes several sensor stations to provide coverage across areas of interest, along with spare parts, support, and training to enable rapid operational deployment and capability development. No further details of the deal have been disclosed.

“This agreement demonstrates the customer’s confidence in Patria and our market-leading passive sensor technology. Patria MUSCL delivers a unique combination of covert surveillance, operational flexibility, and cost-effective performance,” Executive Vice President of Patria’s Defence and Weapon Systems business area, Mikko Leino, said.

“As military forces continue to strengthen their air defense and security capabilities, the demand for passive radar technologies that provide reliable early warning and support counter-UAS operations without revealing one’s own position is growing across Europe.”

MUSCL Passive Radar

Patria MUSCL is a transportable passive radar system that detects and tracks aerial targets in real time, including stealth and low-altitude threats, by exploiting existing broadcast signals as illuminators of opportunity.

Its covert design emits no detectable radar signal, making it difficult for adversaries to detect and suitable for urban deployment. The system can operate independently or as part of a network of MUSCL stations, providing 360-degree surveillance at ranges of up to hundreds of kilometers.

MUSCL can be rapidly deployed in transportable or fixed configurations and integrated with command-and-control networks. It provides cost-effective area and point surveillance for applications including air surveillance, drone detection, critical infrastructure protection, and border control.
