Finland will acquire more than 100 Patria TREMOS mortar systems under a new serial production agreement with the Finnish defense company.
The agreement also includes an option for hundreds of additional systems, giving the Finnish Defence Forces room to expand the fleet beyond the initial order. Deliveries will start this year and continue through 2028.
TREMOS was developed by Patria in cooperation with the Finnish Army and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command. The army received a pre-series batch in 2025 before the system moved into serial production.
Patria will manufacture the systems at its facilities in Finland, working with a network of dozens of suppliers.
“We expect strong international market potential for the system and are proud to have reached this milestone together with the Finnish Defence Forces, whose collaboration has been excellent throughout the development process,” Patria executive vice president Mikko Leino said.
Patria TREMOS
TREMOS is a modular, vehicle-mounted mortar system intended to give heavy mortars greater mobility while retaining their existing firepower. Patria has demonstrated the system with both 120mm and 81mm mortar configurations.
Its recoil technology allows the mortar to be mounted on different vehicle platforms without requiring a completely new weapon system. That approach also allows users to retain existing ammunition and ballistic data, potentially reducing changes to training and logistics.
Finland has also continued expanding its defense cooperation with Patria.
In September, the company completed assembly of the first F135 engine for Finland’s F-35A fleet, marking a milestone in the country’s fifth-generation fighter program.
In July, Finland, Norway, and Latvia signed a statement of intent to adopt Patria’s TRACKX tracked vehicle, strengthening cooperation on land mobility. The agreement covers field trials, further development, and potential joint procurement.
Earlier, in May, Patria and the city of Hämeenlinna agreed to explore closer cooperation to strengthen the local defense industry. Plans include developing industrial infrastructure, supporting workforce development, and creating a demonstration space for defense companies.
