The Finnish Navy is set to receive 18 Watercat M12 boats, following a signed agreement between the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command and Marine Alutech Oy Ab.
Under the 25.2-million-euro ($29.3 million) contract, the Finnish shipbuilder is expected to carry out deliveries of the troop transport boats from 2027 to 2029.
Once delivered, the next-generation Jurmo-class will be primarily deployed for transport and maintenance missions, strengthening the logistical mobility of Finnish coastal forces.
Marine Alutech has also supplied other Watercat variants to Helsinki’s neighboring Denmark and Sweden.
Jurmo-Class Boats
The latest vessels are essentially a modernized version of the existing Jurmo-class design, which first entered service in the early 2000s, incorporating lessons from operational use and updated requirements rather than being an entirely new boat design.
With a 15-ton displacement and a 1-meter (3.3-foot) draft, each next-generation Jurmo-class boat measures 14 meters (46 feet) long and 3.7 meters (12 feet) wide.
The boat can achieve speeds of 30 knots (56 kilometers/35 miles per hour).
It is armed with one 12.7mm anti-aircraft rifle and can accommodate a crew of two people.
