Earth-imaging firm Planet Labs PBC has secured a seven-figure contract to provide solutions and ancillary services for a European defense and intelligence customer.

Under the one-year agreement, Planet will deliver its Mosaics satellite imagery platform alongside dedicated technical support.

Mosaics automatically processes and stitches millions of daily, overlapping 3-meter (10-foot) satellite images into cloud-free imagery maps.

Through the technology, algorithms select the clearest, highest-quality pixels to minimize haze and weather obstructions while color-correcting and aligning the images into uniform datasets delivered on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis.

The approach provides users with complete, analysis-ready visual backdrops to track terrain and infrastructure changes over time.

The California-based company said that the customer will use the geospatial data to monitor land and maritime regions, enhancing its broader operational planning and intelligence-gathering work.

“Defense and intelligence organizations around the globe rely on Planet’s high-frequency, scalable satellite solutions to address complex and fast-evolving security environments,” said Jon Powers, vice president of global defense and intelligence at Planet Labs.

“This major agreement highlights the growing demand for our foundational geospatial data and expert support services in driving situational awareness across strategic land and maritime domains.”

Recent Projects

The contract expands Planet Labs’ military footprint globally, following several international defense contracts earlier this year, including agreements with the US Navy, the Defense Innovation Unit, the Hellenic National Satellite Space Project, and the Swedish Armed Forces.

In March, the enterprise was also selected as one of the industry partners to support the Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense, which serves as the primary acquisition pipeline to build Washington’s Golden Dome air and missile defense network.
