Akima to Support Tech and Logistics Services for USAF Academy
Akima Logistics Services has signed a $109.7 million contract with the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center to supply technology and logistics services for the US Air Force Academy.
The deal will support the 94th FTS Glider/Soaring, the 98th FTS Parachute, and 557th FTS Powered Flight Training squadrons at Peterson Air Force Base and USAF auxiliary airfield in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Also in the contract are sortie support, scheduling, organizational and depot support, aircraft maintenance, and recovery. Tow equipment and pilots during glider, soaring, and powered flight training will also be provided.
Akima and the USAF could extend the contract for a maximum of 10 years if all options are exercised, according to a July 20 press release from the Virginia-based company.
“We are honored to prepare cadets for their future missions by supporting the Academy’s three major flying training programs and over 15,000 sorties a year,” Akima Facility Solutions President Scott Rauer said.
Akima’s Recent US Military Contracts
Akima subsidiary RiverTech was awarded a $40-million deal last year to provide similar services to a US Air Forces training squadron in Europe-Air Forces Africa over five years.
Another subsidiary, Sunik, was awarded a $44 million Enhanced Army Global Logistics Enterprise contract by the US Army in April for supply, transportation, and maintenance services for the 3rd Infantry Division.
