France Acquires Pilatus’ PC-7 MKX Aircraft for Military Pilot Training

France has chosen Pilatus’ PC-7 MKX as the new training system for the French Air and Space Force.

France’s order includes 22 aircraft and ground-based training systems developed partly in collaboration with the French industry.

Pilatus will also provide simulators, computer-based training, mission planning, and debriefing equipment.

The fleet is set to be used for basic military pilot training, with deliveries expected in 2027.

Since 2018, French Air and Space Force pilots have undergone advanced training on the Pilatus PC-21 and its integrated training system.

The fleet currently includes 26 PC-21s, acquired in two tranches.

With the addition of the PC-7 MKX for basic training, French operators will use Pilatus aircraft for all stages of military pilot training.

‘New Smart Avionics System’

The Pilatus PC-7 MKX platform features a new cockpit design based on the Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics suite and a head-up display.

It has an intuitive avionics system designed to provide an ideal training environment from the earliest stages of training.

It features a maximum speed of 555 kilometers/154 miles per hour, a wingspan of 10.46 meters (34.3 feet), a length of 10.26 meters (33.7 feet), and a height of 3.26 meters (10.7 feet).

The PC-7 MKX is also equipped with Martin-Baker ejection seats to enhance security during emergencies.
