A former military official in the US has warned Australia against its plan of sending weapons to Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian invasion.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recently announced an additional $100 million worth of military donations to help Kyiv deter invading Russian forces.
Among the new donations are 14 armored personnel carriers, 20 Bushmaster protected mobility vehicles, and $8.7 million to upgrade Ukraine’s border management equipment.
According to former US Secretary of Defense adviser Col. Douglas Macgregor, the military aid risks a wider war that could cause more pain for Ukrainians.
He further noted that supplying weapons to Kyiv will not stop Moscow from attacking Ukrainian facilities.
“If you understand that the longer this lasts, the more people are going to be slaughtered [and] the more damage will be done in Ukraine,” Macgregor told Sky News.
“I would argue that we need a ceasefire. And Australia should press for that. Because no one in Washington is going to do that. We can’t afford to fight this until there are no longer any Ukrainians left,” he added.
