L3Harris has secured a $250-million contract from Lockheed Martin to produce a record number of propulsion units for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS).

The award covers standard-range GMLRS rockets and will be fulfilled at L3Harris’ 60,000-square-foot (5,574-square-meter) Arsenal of Freedom facility in Camden, Arkansas.

The site is scheduled to open later in 2026 and will use automation and robotics to streamline solid rocket motor production.

L3Harris has supplied GMLRS propulsion units for decades and has doubled its output in recent years to meet demand. It also makes the system’s electronic safe-and-arm device and proximity sensor.

“With our investments to expand capacity ahead of need, we’re well‑positioned to meet this surge while maintaining the quality our customers expect,” L3Harris President of Propulsion Systems Scott Alexander said.

US Expands GMLRS Production

GMLRS is a precision-guided rocket fired by the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System and the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System.

Lockheed Martin has been expanding production to meet demand from the US military and international customers, with a stated target of 14,000 rockets annually.

In December 2025, L3Harris received a contract worth up to $200 million to manufacture propulsion units for the GMLRS Insensitive Munition variant.

Earlier, in August 2024, Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics announced a partnership to establish another source of solid rocket motors for GMLRS.
