US Navy Retains Oceaneering in $154M Submarine Equipment Contract

Oceaneering International’s subsidiary Aerospace and Defense Technologies (ADTech) has secured a follow-on US Navy contract worth up to $154 million to service and sustain the military’s Dry Deck Shelter systems.

Under the deal, ADTech’s Marine Services Division (MSD) will deliver engineering, overhaul, maintenance, and field change services for the specialized submerged equipment.

Dry Deck Shelters attach to submarines to facilitate the underwater deployment and recovery of special operations forces and subsea vehicles.

The five-year agreement includes a single base year alongside four one-year options.

“These mission-sensitive operations run on tight schedules and demand a specialized, highly proficient workforce trusted by the operators,” said David Pest, vice president and general manager of ADTech’s MSD.

“Built on disciplined execution and technical excellence, MSD’s commitment to Dry Deck Shelter safety and reliability is unwavering,” Pest stated.

“These mission‑sensitive operations run on tight schedules and demand a specialized, highly proficient workforce trusted by the operators. I’m exceedingly proud of our team.”

Meanwhile, ADTech SVP Bill Merz highlighted Oceaneering’s established position in assisting the navy’s shelter program since 2002.

“We are proud to continue our long-standing support of the undersea enterprise and special operations community,” Bill Merz said. “This award reflects the Navy’s confidence in Oceaneering and the strength of MSD in growing our nation’s undersea advantage.”

The contract follows Oceaneering’s early 2026 partnership with Norwegian defense company Kongsberg to develop a large unmanned underwater vehicle for the Pentagon.

The collaboration, running through 2026, involves conceptualizing the drone submarine for modularity and integration in support of various autonomous naval operations.

In 2024, the Texas-based firm received a “multi-million-dollar” deal for a separate effort to build subsurface drones for the US Navy.

Vehicles in that initiative are based on Oceaneering’s proprietary Freedom technology, a 15-meter (49-foot) platform specialized for up to five hours of comprehensive monitoring.
