Azerbaijan Taps Turkey for $500M Defense Package
Azerbaijan and Turkey have signed defense deals worth more than $500 million covering trainer aircraft, radar, loitering munitions, electronic warfare, and coastal defense systems.
The agreements were announced by Turkey’s President of Defense Industries Haluk Görgün during the Azerbaijan International Defense Exhibition in Baku. The package includes contracts with Turkish Aerospace Industries, Baykar, and Roketsan, as well as a memorandum of understanding with Aselsan.
Azerbaijan will receive 14 Hürkuş-II trainer aircraft under the agreement, with initial deliveries planned for 2026. The aircraft is a new-generation turboprop trainer designed for pilot training, with capabilities that also support weapons and combat training.
Baykar will supply its Mızrak loitering munition and Antidot system, while Roketsan will provide its Barbaros Coastal Defense System. Aselsan signed a separate deal for ALP-100 radar systems.
Görgün did not disclose the value of the individual agreements or quantities for the other systems.
“In natural disasters, in wars, in every need, two countries that stand by each other are today cooperating in the defense industry for the peace and stability of the region,” he said.
Azerbaijan, Turkey Expand Joint Defense Work
The new purchases come as Azerbaijan and Turkey deepen defense cooperation.
In July, defense officials from the two countries discussed expanding joint work involving artificial intelligence, satellite technologies, electronic warfare, and unmanned systems.
Earlier, in June, Azerbaijan and Turkey held talks about military logistics cooperation to strengthen sustainment and operational readiness.
The coverage included wartime food and water supplies, military transportation, equipment maintenance, and casualty evacuation.
