Japan is exploring AI-equipped humanoid robots for military support roles as the country’s Self-Defense Forces grapple with personnel shortage.
Tokyo is initially considering noncombat applications such as base patrols and logistics, with the robots potentially taking on tasks such as reconnaissance and rescue in the future, Japan Today reported, citing Japanese government and ruling-party sources, Japan Today reported.
Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency is expected to lead the research and organize a competition for private companies and universities to demonstrate their robotic systems.
