CBG Systems has secured a contract from prime contractor BAE Systems Maritime Australia to supply insulation systems for Australia’s Hunter-class frigates.
The $83-million contract tasks the Hobart-based company to deliver and install fire, thermal and acoustic insulation, linings, and pinning into the first three stealth warships: the future HMAS Hunter, HMAS Flinders, and HMAS Tasman.
According to BAE, the Tasmanian small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) has already successfully delivered insulation for prototype blocks since beginning work on the program in 2023.
In support of the contract, CBG will also establish its personnel, a workshop, and office space at the Osborne Naval Shipyard, where BAE laid the keel for the first Hunter-class frigate in August.

The Hunter Class Frigate Program is a truly national endeavour, and it’s a proud moment for a Tasmanian SME to be playing such a central role in delivering it,” said the company’s Managing Director Javier Herbon.

Australia contracted BAE Systems Maritime Australia, formerly known as ASC Shipbuilding, to build a fleet of six Hunter-class frigates in-country before their scheduled commissioning in the early 2030s.
The frigates are envisioned to carry out a range of missions, including anti-submarine warfare, air defense, surveillance and intelligence, as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
CBG joins several other suppliers currently working on the program, including Melbourne-based BlueScope Steel, US contractor L3Harris, and the UK’s Babcock and STS Defence.
