Babcock and British technology firm Roke have signed a deal to jointly pursue UK defense and national security programs involving communications, cyber capabilities, and advanced sensors.
Their work will focus on systems for which the UK government wants domestic control over sensitive data, engineering, and future upgrades.
This approach is intended to limit dependence on foreign suppliers and allow British authorities to modify and support critical systems without relying on overseas approval or technical assistance.
By combining Roke’s research and technology development with Babcock’s integration and support infrastructure, the companies aim to move systems faster from experimentation to field use.
Potential applications could involve connecting platforms, personnel, sensors, and command systems across increasingly contested operating environments.
The companies plan to cover the full development process, from research and operational trials to systems integration, large-scale production, and long-term support.
Babcock will provide expertise in integrating equipment aboard land platforms, connecting military communications systems, and delivering training and maintenance.
Roke will contribute secure communications, sensors, software, data processing, and systems engineering capabilities.
International Markets
While expanding its partnerships in the UK, Babcock is also strengthening its defense cooperation in overseas markets.
In August, the company signed agreements with three Danish firms to explore autonomous systems, integration technologies, and modular equipment for fleets combining crewed and uncrewed vessels.
A month earlier, Babcock expanded its partnership with South Korea’s LIG Defence & Aerospace.
The agreement covers naval platforms, precision weapons, autonomous systems, and maintenance services.
Babcock already operates a facility in Busan supporting South Korean naval programs.
