The US Air Force has awarded V2X a $46-million delivery order to produce equipment that will support the integration of its new Long Range Standoff (LRSO) cruise missile with the B-52 bomber.
V2X will provide carriage equipment needed to integrate the LRSO weapon system onto the B-52.
The LRSO is being developed to replace the air force’s AGM-86B Air-Launched Cruise Missile, which has served as the B-52’s nuclear-armed air-launched cruise missile for decades.
The new weapon is being developed by Raytheon under an engineering and manufacturing development contract awarded in 2021.
“Supporting the modernization of the B-52 and our nation’s strategic deterrent is a responsibility we take seriously,” V2X president Jeremy Wensinger said.
B-52 Gets Upgrades
LRSO integration is taking place alongside a much broader effort to modernize the B-52, which the air force plans to keep in service into the 2050s.
In May, Boeing said it will begin modifying the first B-52’s engines later this year after the Commercial Engine Replacement Program (CERP) passed a critical design review.
The CERP will replace the bomber’s 1960s-era TF33 engines with Rolls-Royce F130 engines, while adding new generators to increase onboard electrical power.
In December 2025, Boeing delivered the first B-52 fitted with an APQ-188 active electronically scanned array radar to the air force for testing at Edwards Air Force Base. The upgrade is part of the B-52 Radar Modernization Program.
