Rheinmetall Canada is set to supply spare parts for the US Navy’s MSU-200NAV air start units under a contract the Pentagon awarded to the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC).

The CCC, Canada’s government-to-government contracting agency, helps local companies supply Canadian-made goods and services to foreign government buyers.

Under the deal “valued in the single-digit millions of euros,” Rheinmetall Canada will supply spare parts for the system’s starter and the Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system components.

The company already conducts MSU development, modernization, and maintenance work at its Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu site in Quebec.

Deliveries are expected between late 2026 and the end of 2028.

MSU-200NAV

The MSU-200NAV is a compact, lightweight air start unit that supplies compressed air to help start aircraft engines on the ground and aboard ships.

For naval aviation, the ability to start engines on ships is particularly important because aircraft may need to operate from confined shipboard environments without access to conventional ground infrastructure.

Its starter component initiates turbine operation, while the FADEC system regulates the turbine’s power output, sequence control, and safety.

The MSU is designed for reliability, efficiency, and long-term availability, and its turbine-based design makes it suitable for worldwide deployment.
