Lockheed Martin’s global F-35 fleet has surpassed one million flight hours, marking a historic milestone for the 20-year program.
The achievement encompasses combat operations across all F-35 variants, including the F-35C, which saw its first combat action in November 2024.
According to program executive officer for the F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Office Lt. Gen. Michael Schmidt, the one million flight hours is a “monumental achievement” for the fleet, highlighting the trust and confidence global customers have in the fifth-generation aircraft.
“This milestone is not just a testament to the F-35’s unmatched capability, but also to the resilience and commitment of everyone involved in this program,” he said.
With this achievement, Lockheed is committed to continuing to enhance the F-35’s capabilities, ensuring it remains ahead of adversarial threats.
‘Most Advanced, Reliable, and Effective’ Asset
The F-35 Lightning II is a supersonic, multi-role fighter designed to meet the evolving security needs of the US military and its allies.
Powered by a Pratt & Whitney turbofan engine, the F-35 can reach speeds of Mach 1.6, with an operational range exceeding 1,350 miles (2,172 kilometers).
It is capable of carrying weapons such as the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile and the Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile for air assault missions.
Schmidt emphasized that the F-35 equips warfighters with the “most advanced, reliable, and effective” tool to safeguard their nations.
“Not only is it the world’s most advanced fighter jet, the F-35 also makes those fighting with it better by connecting the battlespace, ensuring the warfighter gets home safely,” added Chauncey McIntosh, vice president and general manager of the F-35 program at Lockheed.
