L3Harris Secures $300M US Army Contract for Cryptographic-Compliant Radios
L3Harris has received full-rate production orders totaling nearly $300 million to deliver cryptographic-compliant multi-channel radios to the US Army.
The orders include AN/PRC-158 and AN/PRC-163 radios, which enhance interoperability across tactical and aerial operations in challenging environments, including electronic warfare scenarios.
The systems comply with modern cryptographic standards, boosting security for communications at both secure but unclassified-encrypted and high-assurance encryption levels.
“Effective, resilient communication dictates the operations tempo, and our solutions support the required comms-on-the-move to enable Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control,” said Sam Mehta, L3Harris Communication Systems President.
“Our battle-proven resilient communications systems deliver the latest capabilities to keep pace with the emerging threats on the modern battlefield, providing commanders greater flexibility.”
‘Resilient Communications’
The L3Harris AN/PRC-158 Manpack radio provides dual-channel connectivity across the 30-2500 MHz frequency range.
It is compact, lightweight, and designed for tactical communication needs in the field, supporting narrowband, wideband, and fast-hop waveforms.
Its dual channels and crossbanding technologies support communications redundancy and secure voice and data sharing across multiple networks.
The AN/PRC-163 Leader radio integrates GPS, inline encryption, and satellite communications. It provides real-time intelligence from command to squad level by crossbanding satellite, line-of-sight, and beyond-line-of-sight networks.
It enables voice and data sharing even for isolated units and includes a mission module with full-motion video capabilities, supporting up to 200 users simultaneously.
US Army Radio Program
The recent orders are part of the US Army’s Handheld, Manpack & Small Form Fit program.
The initiative focuses on providing battalions with tactical networks to exchange information using Leader and Manpack radios.
L3Harris Technologies, Collins Aerospace, and Thales Defense & Security are the major contractors on the program.
