India Unveils ‘Sanjay’ Advanced Battlefield Surveillance System
India has introduced a cutting-edge battlefield surveillance system dubbed the “Sanjay,” designed to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Army.
Developed in collaboration with state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited, the system integrates data from a range of ground and aerial sensors to create a unified “common surveillance picture” of the battlefield.
This advanced capability reportedly boosts accuracy, eliminates redundancy, and optimizes the use of the country’s Army Data Network and Satellite Communication Network.
With its state-of-the-art sensors and analytics, Sanjay is capable of effectively monitoring vast land borders, including the strategically sensitive Line of Actual Control with China.
Once deployed, the system is expected to provide the Indian Army Command with real-time, accurate support to facilitate rapid decision-making.
A ‘Crucial’ Force Multiplier
Local reports suggest that the Sanjay is set to redefine how commanders approach both conventional and sub-conventional operations.
Equipped with artificial intelligence, it can assess battlefield scenarios in real time, providing vital surveillance for troop placements, precise targeting, and other tactical decisions.
The capability positions the system as a powerful force multiplier, helping prevent border intrusions and offering unmatched situational awareness.
Deployment of the Sanjay will occur in three phases, beginning in March and concluding by October 2025. It will be rolled out across the Army’s operational brigades, divisions, and corps.

‘Year of Technology Absorption’
The unveiling of Sanjay coincides with India’s declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Technology Absorption” in the military.
It also aligns with the country’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” or “Make in India” initiative, which aims to foster self-reliance in defense.
Sanjay is expected to revolutionize future battlefields, empowering commanders to make informed decisions and providing the Indian Army with a technological edge over adversaries.
In addition to the surveillance system, New Delhi has previously rolled out other military technologies, including anti-drone laser and radar-evading “invisibility cloak” systems.
