The Bundeswehr has ordered 568 logistics vehicles from Rheinmetall worth 330 million euros ($342 million) and an undisclosed quantity of infrared multifunction binoculars from Safran.
The Rheinmetall order will comprise 219 swap-body trucks, of which 121 will be fitted with a protected driver’s cab and 349 unprotected transport vehicle (UTF) trucks in the 5t and 15t configurations in support of the German armed forces’ truck fleet modernization.
Meanwhile, the Safran binoculars will enhance warfighter operational capabilities as they cover day/night observation and target acquisition in all weather conditions and environments.
“We thank the [German Bundeswehr’s procurement office] for their trust in Safran Electronics & Defense and are proud to offer our technological innovations in night vision and observation to the German armed forces,” said Marzell Schiller, CEO of Safran Electronics & Defense Germany.

Logistics Vehicles
Designed for operational flexibility, the UTF and swap-body systems are based on the HX family of vehicles under the Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles, featuring a modular design and all-terrain capability.
They also enhance interoperability with NATO forces who operate HX vehicles, including Austria, Denmark, Norway, the UK, and Sweden.
Deliveries of the swap-body trucks will begin in November this year, while deliveries of the UTF trucks are scheduled for 2026.
The UTF trucks are part of a framework agreement concluded in July 2024 between the German arms manufacturer and the Bundeswehr, which covers the delivery of approximately 6,500 trucks worth 3.5 billion euros ($3.6 billion).
Under the deal, the German armed forces could place additional orders for the UTF for seven years.
Moreover, it also introduced the latest UTF vehicle, a 4×4 model in the 3.5t configuration.
