Oshkosh Corporation subsidiary Pratt Miller Defense has secured a multi-year deal to produce its Trackless Moving Targets (TMT) for US Army and National Guard marksmanship proficiency programs.
The Michigan-based company’s proprietary TMT is a “highly mobile” armored drone that uses zone-based hit detection and GPS-based maneuver technology to support reactive movements during live fire scoring.
It is similar to the size of a standard infantry fighting vehicle and can drive individually or in groups, enabling portability between ranges while cutting costs in training sessions requiring greater target quantity.
Distribution of the robotic platforms will start in the summer of 2025, the firm noted in its announcement.
“It has been an honor to collaborate closely with the US Army on developing the Trackless Moving Target training systems,” Prat Miller Defense Robotics Executive Director Jim Fontaine stated.
“What began as a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) effort 12 years ago has evolved into a program shaped by the Army’s steadfast commitment to refining requirements in accordance with soldier feedback.”
“This dedication has ensured the product meets their specific training needs while prioritizing safety, seamless integration with the Army’s range software, and long-term durability. The rapid improvements in training effectiveness have been met with enthusiasm and gratitude from soldiers, and it’s a privilege to contribute to their preparedness.”
