Orbit to Provide SATCOM Dishes to Israeli Defense Forces
Orbit Communication Systems has received a $9.1-million contract to supply multi-purpose satellite communication terminals (MPTs) for the Israeli Defense Forces.
The package will be integrated with different roll-on/roll-off and mobile platforms, sustaining the availability of network connections for the military in “the most challenging terrains.”
It will incorporate the firm’s proprietary MPT-30 and MPT-46 dish variants developed for mobile communications with high-data transmission and reception requirements.
These solutions are designed with a compact architecture that supports speeds of 126 megabytes per second for downloads and 29 megabytes per second for uploads, allowing warfighters to stream video live and transmit information seamlessly.
Orbit said that the satellite dishes comply with US military and civil standards as well as international, national, and satellite communication regulations, enabling their use for international intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
Tel Aviv will begin receiving the terminals in 2025.
“This strategic win represents a significant milestone for Orbit, reinforcing our position as a trusted technology partner for defense organizations worldwide,” Orbit CEO Daniel Eshchar stated.
“It reflects the great confidence in Orbit’s technological capabilities, as we provide satellite communication systems for various maritime, ground, and airborne platforms to global customers, including airborne platforms of the US military and NATO countries.”
Latest Milestones
Orbit’s selection for Israel’s tactical satellite terminal project comes after the firm’s partnership with Viasat in July 2024 to combine its MPT devices with the latter’s airborne platform offerings.
Among Viasat’s current military engagements is the demonstration of a low-Earth orbit spacecraft and satellite constellation for a US Air Force Research Laboratory program, which aims to leverage commercial space-based assets to support terrestrial operations.
In March, Orbit unveiled its lightweight 12-inch MPT-30 and 18-inch MPT-46 dishes.
