Ukraine, Lithuania to Jointly Produce Unmanned, Electronic Warfare Systems

Ukraine and Lithuania have signed a memorandum of understanding to produce unmanned systems and their components, as well as electronic warfare and technological solutions.

Under this defense cooperation, the two countries are also planning joint research projects and joint development of advanced technologies.

Ukraine’s Minister of Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin signed the document together with Lithuania’s Minister of Defense Laurynas Kasčiūnas and his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov.

“Lithuania is a good friend of Ukraine,” Smetanin announced in a Telegram post.

“We have several signed documents on defense innovations, Lithuanian companies are members of the Alliance of Defense Industries, the Lithuanian government allocates funds for the production of weapons in Ukraine.”

Lithuanian Support for Ukraine

In response to Russia’s war with Ukraine, Lithuania has boosted its defense investments.

Vilnius has also shown its support for Kyiv by donating 5,000 locally manufactured first-person view drones in September and military equipment including generators, ammo, and mortar rounds in early November this year.

In early August 2024, the Lithuanian government also announced a military package containing 14 M113 armored personnel carriers, short-range air defense systems, tactical equipment, and counter-drone systems, among others bound for its war-torn ally.
