Finland will acquire a new modular 120 mm mortar system from Patria, which the Finnish company describes as a “mobile version of traditional mortar.”
The system, called “TREMOS,” was jointly developed by Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces and will be used in combat support operations.
The mortar system is designed to integrate traditional heavy mortar weapons into a modular carriage that can be mounted on military trucks.
It is capable of utilizing existing mortar tube, ammunition, and ballistic tables, as well as new heavy mortars.
Furthermore, the system’s integration module allows for installation on a variety of vehicles, making it a versatile and scalable solution.
TREMOS can fire within 60 seconds of arriving at the firing position and can be used independently or as part of a mobile firing unit.
“The main objective was to significantly increase the mobility of existing mortar equipment,” said Patria Director Lauri Pauniaho.
After the initial ideas were approved, it took a year to produce the first prototype for proof-of-concept tests.
“It has already undergone testing, and the pre-series agreement was promptly signed,” Patria VP Jussi Järvinen stated.
“Decades of experience in developing and manufacturing different weapon systems, such as the Patria AMOS and Patria NEMO mortar systems, have been applied in this development.”
TREMOS is set for delivery to the Finnish Army in 2025.
