Rohde & Schwarz to Equip German Warships With Electronic Support Measures

Rohde & Schwarz has been commissioned to supply and integrate communications and radar electronic support measures for the German Navy’s F124 Sachsen-class frigates.

Under the contract, the entire fleet of three F124 air-defense frigates and as many land systems will be integrated with the KORA 40 family of systems.

The contract includes training and reference equipment, with integration to be carried out through additional shipbuilding contracts, according to the German firm.

KORA 40 Electronic Support Measures

The integrated systems detect, identify, track, and analyze both complex and wideband radar emissions, as well as communications signals.

Additional capabilities include electromagnetic countermeasures for self-protection.

The systems will provide comprehensive situational awareness for the ship’s crew, covering the entire electromagnetic spectrum with high sensitivity and long range.

They will replace the warship’s existing electronic countermeasures system and serve throughout their service life, or until they are replaced.

Installed on Other German Warships

The German Navy’s other warships are also equipped with the KORA family of systems, leveraging synergies.

“Following the F125 class frigates and the recently expanded F126 class frigates, now increased to six units, as well as a boat class as a key capability carrier, the important air defense frigates of the F124 class are now also benefiting from this approach,” Rohde & Schwarz Vertriebs-GmbH’s Managing Director Alexander Philipp explained.

“The innovative solutions in R&S KORA provide the German Navy with cutting-edge, cross-functional, technology along with user-friendliness, personnel efficiency and cost-effectiveness over the entire service life. Recently, the Polish Navy also procured R&S KORA for its Miecznik class frigates,“ Philipp added.
