HII Wins US Air Force Fighter, Bomber Weapon Systems Support Contract

HII Mission Technologies has signed a $209-million contract to support the development and maintenance of the US Air Force’s fighter and bomber fleet weapon systems.

The effort will provide research and analysis tasks encompassing weapons systems and subsystems production, upkeep, and associated long-term strategies.

The five-year project will be facilitated by Mission Technologies’s Cyber, Electronic Warfare and Space (CEWS) unit in partnership with the air force’s Fighters and Advanced Aircraft and Bomber Directorate.

“HII is excited to build upon our Air Force Life Cycle Management Center work, helping to optimize the customer’s approach to developing, fielding and maintaining fighter and bomber platforms and subsystems to maximize their readiness and lethality,” Mission Technologies CEWS President Grant Hagen said.

HII’s award follows an update from the US Air Force in March on the potential grounding of 514 aircraft due to a lack of spare parts.

Among the planes affected by this shortage are F-15E Strike Eagles, F-16C/D Vipers, and B-52 Stratofortress subsonic bombers, according to The War Zone.

“Weapons systems need to be developed and maintained at a level that ensures they are mission-capable anytime, anywhere and meet the evolving needs of the Air Force, Joint services and coalition partners,” CEWS Operations Vice President Eric Wright said.

HII announced a US Air Force contract in January to produce a Joint Training Synthetic Environment for combatant commands.

In August 2023, the company accepted a $148-million recompete task order to deliver professional services for the bomber fleets under the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Bombers Directorate.

One year earlier, HII announced an agreement to support the US Air Force’s electronic warfare and electromagnetic spectrum capabilities assembly and upgrades.
