L3Harris Wins $479M Next-Gen Tactical Radio Contract From US Military

L3Harris has been awarded a $479-million contract to supply the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) with next-generation tactical radios.

The equipment is expected to provide the country’s special forces with enhanced battlefield communication for modern military operations.

Apart from the undisclosed number of tactical radios, the company will also deliver associated sustainment and support services within seven one-year periods.

Portfolio

The contract announcement did not disclose the specific type of tactical radio the USSOCOM is procuring.

The Florida-based technology firm is known for producing a wide variety of communication systems, including the RO-X tactical radio that provides uninterrupted, over-the-horizon communications.

It also manufactures tactical handheld radios that ensure interoperability with legacy systems and resilient communications in contested environments.

Additionally, L3Harris produces tactical manpack radios, including the AN/PRC-158 for “superior, multi-channel communications” of forward-deployed teams.

Previous Contracts

In 2022, the company won a lucrative $3.69-billion contract to supply portable radios and parts to the US Navy.

As part of the agreement, L3Harris will deliver handheld, manpack, vehicle-mounted, and base-mounted communication devices until 2027.

The US Marine Corps followed suit, ordering an unspecified number of AN/PRC-163 multi-channel handheld radio systems for $160 million.
