The US Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) has awarded engineering firm BL Harbert International a $210.2-million contract to construct a weapons generation complex at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier Parish, Louisiana.
Under the agreement, the Alabama company will design and establish five new hubs and renovate an existing one-story facility at the site.
Units to be produced include a weapons development facility, a diesel generator building, a security center, a fire pump infrastructure, a weather shelter, a main facility, and multiple towers supporting additional security.
The contract includes 11 additional options to bring the initiative’s value to $221.2 million.
Work for the project will run until January 2026.
Supporting Global Strike Command
NAVFAC has been partnering with the US Air Force for almost 10 years to plan and execute the project, the US Navy wrote.
The complex is expected to become Barksdale AFB’s largest project since its launch after World War II.
“This contract award supports the lethality and readiness of the US Air Force’s B-52 bombers assigned to Barksdale AFB,” Barksdale Construction Officer Lt. Cmdr. James Keokosal said.
“The completed complex will be critical to the Air Force Global Strike Command’s mission of providing lethal precision strikes anywhere, at any time.”
