The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has purchased its 1,000th Landshield anti-jam system from defense giant Raytheon.
The procurement is considered a “milestone” in the ministry’s efforts to defend critical military global positioning system (GPS) signals.
According to Raytheon executive Rory Chamberlain, the deal reflects the MoD’s confidence and trust in the company’s suite of anti-jamming technologies.
“This sustained investment has allowed us to develop our partnership with the MoD and innovate in the most impactful ways,” he added.
‘Keeping Ahead of Adversaries’
Raytheon’s “market-leading” Landshield is a lightweight, cost-effective system that is designed to be ultra-versatile to support land, sea, and air operations.
Only the size of a hockey puck, it can repel jamming and spoofing attempts for secured GPS signals being used by any military system.
The system can also alert users about the presence and location of interfering signals, thereby providing critical, real-time situational awareness to friendly units.
“We know the importance of defending GPS in the 21st century,” Raytheon official Sam Missett explained.
“By producing a product that continues to receive the backing of MoD, it demonstrates to us that we are delivering a level of capability that keeps us ahead of our adversaries.”
