Italy, Denmark to Collaborate on Submersible Warfare Solutions
Denmark’s SH Defence is collaborating with Italian underwater tech firm DRASS to develop a warfare submersible that can support sabotage and intelligence missions.
The companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding for the integration of the DRASS DS8 SDV submersible craft with SH’s Cube system.
The DS8 SDV is designed to transport military equipment and up to eight combat divers from a ship, submarine, or their operational base to a potential target.
It reportedly provides support for combat swimmers with speed, endurance, comfort, and operational flexibility.
Meanwhile, the Cube system can host and deploy various naval payloads, eliminating the need for fixed heavy launch and recovery installations.
It can handle all known types of sea mines, making it suitable for mine laying and mine hunting missions.
‘Unlocking Game-Changing Possibilities’
According to SH Defence, integrating its Cube system with the DS8 SDV would bring technological advancements and unlock new game-changing possibilities in the area of maritime defense.
It would also allow the two companies to showcase their respective expertise in developing cutting-edge submersible warfare solutions.
“The Cube modular capability provides a platform for interchangeability and usage across several navy crafts that brings a cost-effective and future-proof solution to the operational arena,” company sales director Jens Flarup said.
