HII, Ocean Aero to Expand Unmanned System Capabilities
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) and Ocean Aero have launched a strategic partnership to expand unmanned maritime capabilities and autonomy software solutions.
Under the collaboration, the firms will conduct projects to improve the operational functions and endurance of their existing products.
Other efforts will focus on shared sensor fusion, autonomy behaviors, seabed-to-shore data transmission, and perception technologies.
“We are pleased to partner with Ocean Aero to further expand the operational capabilities of the US Armed Forces, partner nations and other maritime-focused commercial institutions,” HII Unmanned Systems President Duane Fotheringham stated.
“We are excited to combine the best of our individual products to deliver an exceptional suite of solutions to our customers.”
‘Perfect Time’
According to HII, the team is engaged in several military initiatives and exercises to showcase its mission capabilities, including the Digital Horizon exercise in the Arabian Gulf, where US warfighters have been deploying HII’s REMUS underwater drones since 2013.
HII and Ocean Aero will demonstrate their combined capabilities during an upcoming event in the region, as well as during other exercises for the US and other international forces.
“This is the perfect time for us to partner with HII,” Ocean Aero CEO Kevin Decker said.
“With rising maritime challenges increasing worldwide, we need new capabilities to meet them. Incorporating our two firms’ autonomous vehicle value propositions will unlock new tools for our customers at home and abroad.”
