Echodyne Delivers Radar System to US Army

American technology firm Echodyne has delivered its first order of radar systems for the US Army’s $191 million Security Surveillance System (SSS) program.

The company’s metamaterial detection systems were chosen as a component of the SSS program following “extensive” testing during the design and development phase.

According to Echodyne, the radar system will provide enhanced ground and aerial security capabilities to the US Army.

“Echodyne radars are on the cutting edge of what’s possible with radars today – our technology is constantly outperforming industry expectations, shepherding in a new era of situational awareness,” Chief Executive Officer Eben Frankenberg said in a press release.

Increased Importance of Radar

The acquisition of new radar systems comes amid increased awareness of new technological threats such as drones.

Echodyne explained that radars are an essential component of a “robust” security solution, offering increased detection ranges and early warning capability against ground and air-based threats.

“With Echodyne’s breakthrough metamaterials electronically scanned array (MESA) technology in the mix, the security system is enhanced with robust 4D data on the approaching object, whether human, vehicle, boat, or drone,” the company stated.
