South Korea has deployed an on-device AI “staff officer” aboard a Pohang-class warship to help personnel find technical information and guidance when operating and maintaining onboard equipment.
Developed by South Korean physical AI company MakinaRocks, the system acts as a digital reference assistant, helping crew members check equipment procedures and consult relevant manuals and guidelines without having to search through technical documents manually.
The project aims to address information gaps among personnel as declining military manpower and the complexity of warships, which contain hundreds of pieces of equipment, make operations and maintenance more challenging.
