Rheinmetall Nordic has inaugurated a new facility in Skoppum, Norway, to expand development, production, and systems integration for local and international armed forces.

The 4,579-square-meter (49,288-square-foot) site will operate under a 15-year lease and provide capacity for more than 120 specialists.

The center will consolidate key technological areas, including electro-optical equipment, fire control solutions, situational awareness systems, and weapon accessories.

The site will also support broader projects tied to mortar systems, autonomous land systems, and other capabilities being developed under Rheinmetall’s Digital Systems division.

Rheinmetall retained option space to scale the footprint up to 5,000 square meters (53,820 square feet) in the future.

‘Significant Investment’

Rheinmetall Nordic brings over seven decades of cooperation within Norway’s defense sector, with its position reinforced by the 2010 buyout of Nøtterøy-based Simrad Optronics.

Its expansion aligns with Oslo’s procurement surge under a 12-year defense plan through 2036.

That strategy carries about 1.624 trillion kroner ($169 billion) in expenditure, supplemented by an additional 115-billion-kroner ($11.9 billion) increase announced last March.

“The opening of our new site in Skoppum represents a significant investment in the future of Rheinmetall Nordic,” said Morten Kjørum, CEO of Rheinmetall Nordic.

“It lays the foundation for greater capacity, innovation, and value creation, while also strengthening our ability to support our customers and partners.”
