Germany Pledges $1.5B in Ukraine Aid, Including Drones, Long-Range Weapons
Germany will provide Ukraine with 1.3 billion euros ($1.5 billion) in additional assistance, including military equipment and funding to repair energy infrastructure, Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced during a visit to Kyiv, the Associated Press reported.
Around 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) will fund military support, including long-range strike weapons, combat drones, and satellite technology.
Merz said the equipment would help Kyiv strike sites used to launch Russian attacks.
Another 350 million euros ($393 million) will support the country’s energy system ahead of winter, paying for generators, substations, and repairs.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the countries also signed 15 agreements worth more than 8.5 billion euros ($9.6 billion), largely covering security cooperation, weapons production, and procurement.
Additionally, Berlin will finance joint production of interceptor drones to counter Russia’s jet-powered drones, Merz said.
He added that recent technical advances were helping accelerate production.
Zelensky described the weapons as a growing threat, saying Moscow had launched 900 jet-powered drones last week alone with Kyiv intercepting roughly half.
He stressed the importance of F-16 fighter jets for defending against Russian jet-powered drones and said he would discuss further ammunition supplies with US President Donald Trump.
Germany’s Military Support
Germany’s military assistance to Ukraine includes weapons drawn from its armed forces’ stocks and equipment purchased from industry with federal funding.
Deliveries range from air defense systems, artillery, and armored vehicles to ammunition, medical supplies, and protective equipment.
The European nation has also trained more than 27,000 Ukrainian soldiers since the war began.
Last year, Berlin announced plans to increase its military aid for 2026 by 3 billion euros (3.4 billion), bringing the proposed total to 11.5 billion euros ($12.9 billion).
