The Bangladesh Coast Guard has partnered with French naval engineering firm MAURIC to draft hulls for five Riverine Patrol Vessels.
In collaboration with Norwegian firm Nordic Naval, MAURIC will provide a design package and primary equipment to Dhaka’s state-owned Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, where the fleet will be built.
The program complements the South Asian country’s broader efforts to bolster maritime interdiction capabilities, surveillance tasks, and territorial water defenses.
Specifications
The platforms will be based on MAURIC’s Coastal Patrol Vessel portfolio, which has been tested and fielded for active missions.
Each boat will measure 38 meters (125 feet) in length, incorporate a steel hull and aluminum superstructures, and offer capacity for up to 29 personnel.
They will be armed with a 30mm remote-controlled gun, sail at 22 knots (41 kilometers/25 miles per hour), and be capable of up to 10 days of straight deployment.
Delivering Specialized Solution
As part of the agreement, representatives from Nordic Naval, the Bangladesh Ministry of Home Affairs, and Dhaka’s local shipyards recently met at MAURIC’s headquarters in Marseille and at a maritime trade fair in Hamburg, Germany, to advance the program.
Fabrice Ghozla, director of commercial and business development at MAURIC, said that the effort demonstrates growing international demand for the company’s offerings beyond Europe.
“We offer tailored-made solutions finely adapted to operational requirements and local constraints but based on reliable and high-performance sea proven solutions and the hull forms that make MAURIC’s design references on the patrol boat and OPV markets,” Ghozla stated.
