Aselsan has tested its Korkut 35 air defense system against drones during a live-fire demonstration.
The system engaged fixed-wing, delta-wing, and mini and micro unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) under representative operational conditions, with a focus on kamikaze drones and other small aerial threats.
Korkut 35 also fired at a moving ground target while both the system and target were in motion. Mounted on an 8×8 tactical wheeled vehicle, it demonstrated its ability to engage targets while moving.
Defense delegations from 12 countries attended the demonstration.
Aselsan said the system can also engage fighter aircraft, cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles, helicopters, and other UAVs.
Aselsan’s Korkut 35
Korkut 35 is an air defense system built around a 35mm automatic cannon that uses programmable airburst ammunition. This gives it an option against small and difficult-to-hit aerial targets without relying solely on missiles.
The system also combines the gun with sensors and fire-control equipment for target detection and engagement. Its mobile configuration is intended to provide short-range protection as units move rather than requiring a fixed defensive position.
Aselsan has also developed the Korkut family for the Turkish Armed Forces. The original Korkut self-propelled air defense system uses a tracked vehicle and twin 35mm guns, and entered service as part of Turkey’s layered air defense network.
